Residents of the Gulf Coast begun evacuating as Category 4 Hurricane Ida is set to hit land Sunday evening. Left-wing outlets are complaining about the hurricane’s effects on inequality and climate change.
Summary
Hurricane Ida has strengthened into a Category 4 storm while barreling toward the Gulf Coast.
- Coastal residents of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama evacuated to safety as Ida is expected to make landfall as early as Sunday night.
- According to the National Weather Service and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, Ida is “one of the strongest” hurricanes set to make landfall since the 1850s.
- Some of Louisiana’s “coastal, low-lying parishes” will see “un-survivable” water surges.
- Comparisons are being made to 2005’s Hurricane Katrina that decimated New Orleans, though experts are saying while Ida is a Category 4, it is nowhere near the same size as Katrina.
- Vox connected the potential damage of Ida to the struggles of Gulf states in containing the coronavirus, suggesting the hospital systems are already strained. They took the opportunity to rail about America’s “unequal access to health care” in a report about a hurricane.
- Slate compared Ida to Katrina more favorably, quoting a New Orleans official saying the city’s storm infrastructure has “greatly improved” since 2005.
- You can’t talk about hurricanes without at least one left-wing outlet bringing up the boogeyman of climate change. Mother Jones argued weather is getting more extreme because of global warming and to expect more “disasters that our existing infrastructure” cannot withstand.
- Fox News’ coverage highlighted Biden administration appointee Deanne Criswell, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and questioned whether she is up to the task.
- OANN took the nonsense out of the story, reporting the facts and embedding Homeland Security preparedness information on the web page.
- Newsmax reported on the Gulf Coast’s energy industry and efforts to secure and evacuate energy infrastructure like oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
Author’s Take
One does not need a crystal ball to know that some faculty lounge blog like Mother Jones or Vox would write about social inequality or climate change. The sun rises in the east, sets in the west, and liberals will blame everything on inequality and climate change.
